QUESTIONS from patients
Porcelain veneers are thin shells bonded to the front of the tooth. They resist staining, look closest to natural enamel and last around ten years or more. Composite veneers are built up in tooth-coloured filling material, cost less, can often be done in a single visit and remove less enamel, but they stain more easily and do not last as long.
It depends on your budget, how much tooth structure you want to keep and what result you are after. We will show you the trade-offs honestly, including the fact that composite results depend a great deal on technique, and let you decide.
They should. Porcelain has a glass-like quality that mimics natural enamel, and we shade-match to your surrounding teeth. If a result would look obviously artificial, we will tell you before starting.
Usually yes. Whitening does not change the colour of veneers, crowns or fillings, so if you plan to whiten it should happen first, and the veneers are then matched to your new shade.
Usually not, since most plans treat purely cosmetic treatment as elective. Where a veneer or crown is also restoring a damaged tooth there may be partial coverage. We will check your plan and tell you what to expect before you commit.
