With good care, a porcelain crown typically lasts 10–15 years or more.
Modern root canal treatment is done under local anaesthetic and feels much like having a filling. The pain people associate with root canals is usually the infection beforehand, not the treatment, and most patients feel considerably better afterwards. A crown is normally recommended afterwards to protect the tooth.
