A tongue-tie (ankyloglossia) happens when the thin band of tissue under the tongue is too short or tight, limiting movement. It can affect breastfeeding in infants and speech or oral hygiene later in life.
A release, or frenectomy, is a brief procedure that takes just minutes and typically involves minimal discomfort and fast healing.

A nkyloglossia, to give it its clinical name, is when the band of tissue under the tongue tethers it too tightly to the floor of the mouth. That can restrict movement enough to affect feeding, swallowing and speech, and in some cases contributes to tension in the head and neck or to breathing problems during sleep.
Infants, children and adults. The reasons differ by age. In babies it is usually about feeding, in children about speech or swallowing, and in adults often about tension or airway concerns.

With a dental laser, which releases the frenulum precisely and cauterises as it goes, so there is very little bleeding and healing tends to be quicker than with a scalpel. The procedure itself is short.
Usually yes. Exercises with a myofunctional therapist before and after the release are a normal part of treatment, and they matter. The release creates the range of movement, and the exercises are what teach the tongue to use it.
Most people are comfortable within a few days. We will give you aftercare instructions including the stretching routine, which is important in the first couple of weeks to stop the tissue reattaching.
